JULIAN by Antonio Da Silva.
JULIAN is an experimental biographical piece about two men, Julian and Antonio who disconnected themselves from the anxious city, and allowed their spirits to be taken by nature. It is a slightly voyeuristic love letter about and to Julian, the Swiss man whom the narrator has briefly met in London and, shortly after, invited to a road-trip to Portugal.

Hello Antonio,
I was moved by the short Julian. Not only the name which holds a deep relevance for me, however, the scenes that were created with the Super-8. I grew up in the southern part of Florida, and this film reminded me of my youth and growing into adulthood, all the things that a young man will do to see the way of the world, well they are many. I want to show this film to my boyfriend (when I do, I will donate again.) he grew up in New Hampshire and I in coastal southern towns round the Gulf of Mexico. We are from two different worlds with two different sets of youth. I find it very interesting how we can be together under these life events, yet I say, truly that opposites attract. The very images that you fully expressed is the idea that I feel should be brought back to the western ‘gay’ culture, that of naturalism. An idea that men are men.
In short, I enjoy your films and I hope that you continue to make them, for you have an audience, let them see. Call me an old soul.

Beautiful, tender, masculine. Really drew me to see Julian with awe, wonder, as a person. Really felt Julian’s connection to all creation, and also reminded me of his beauty, value and creativity in God. Whole, beauty, integrity, glory, simplicity.

I am queer demisexual. The vast majority of porn, most people in fact do not spark in my psyche the slightest sexual frisson. I can nonetheless appreciate the homoërotic nature of the cast and the æsthetic quality of the imagery in this short. At times the dialogue (mostly monologue ?) did merge into a poëtic art-form – and I wished those moments could have been extended. However, at other points the script felt stilted and jarred within me. I did feel the oral & visual narrative is a complete entity and as such I felt satisfied at the end. I agree this short very much feels like a love-poëm to Julian. I should very much watch on another occasion.
